We just recevieved the mounting kit, and stereo to install *Alpine 9835* to hopefully fix the buzzing noise......but yeah, anyways, I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to hook up the external amp to the unit or if I'm going to be able to get all 6 speakers to work with the unit, the rear speakers have an amp, but if I hook-up the rear amp outputs, the rear speaker outputs don't work, so I can't use it that way, will I have to get another amp to power the front speakers?

Let us know if the buzzing goes away! I'm planning on ordering a "flush mount" cd player kit(guy on clubgp sells them) and getting an aftermarket cd player....since my TGP doesn't have a cd player stock and it has the annoying buzzing.

What, wait, flush mount for the older style?  Link to info maybe?  I did a search on there, and came up with nothing for the pre 92 I think it was????  I would love to have a flushmount :)

I'll have to find it myself, it's been a while.  The only thing is that you have to choose aftermarket cd players of a certain depth(like the stock units depth) or it will not fit in all the way(unless you mod the underside of the dash).

"92" should be the same, the casette deck in my 90 TGP looks exactly the same size as the one that came out of my 93. I think he listed 92 as that is the oldest GP he's done one for so far.  I'm sure Gearhead43 or someone else can confirm this...I can compare my 93 to my 90 sometime if need be.

The factory TGP system uses 1 external amplifier (located below the radio box) which powers the door speakers. The dash speakers and deck speakers are ran off the speaker outputs of the headunit. The external amplifier is also fed signal from the front speaker outputs on the headunit, it requires speaker level inputs, not pre-amp level.

I dunno if that helps any, as I'm not sure if you have any other aftermarket stereo equipment in the car. If it's all factory you shouldn't have to do anything different with the connections. Just make sure the pink 'power antenna' wire is connected to the proper wire on the new headunit, not only for the power antenna (if it still works) but also for the turn on signal for the external door speaker amp.

As for the flushmount bracket, I don't see how that would work with the stereo boxes in our car. If you look at the pictures on their site, the mounting tabs are on the sides.. But ours mount on the top and the bottom of the radio, and there's no place to fasten them on the side. The 94+ GP's all had the side tab mounting setup.

Why does he list "92" then? I think the ones pictures are just the newer ones. He most likely WILL make us one if someone sends him a template/info to do so, he started out making his own for his 97+ Prix and then started making more.

Why wouldn't he list '91' or all the way down to 89 then since they used all the same mounting setup?
I'd LOVE to have a flush mounting option for a single din headunit. But just looking at the box in the TGP, I know it's going to take more work to flush mount a headunit then just buying the plate. The box isn't deep enough.. My 1.5 DIN Alpine barely fits in there, so some creative cutting and hacking would need to be done. I have no idea what's behind the box either.. For all we know, it could be vents, or a big steel dash support bar.

Not to hijack this thread, just need to know a few things.

How do you get the cover off to get to the radio.  I sat there for 10 minutes trying to figure it out one day and gave up.  Does it just pull off or are there screws or what?

Also, what would cause just my rear speakers to quit working?  They just stopped working one day...it was really odd.

On each side of the box, there's 2 7mm screws. You have to take the trim piece off from under the steering wheel to get to the left side, and open the glove box on the right side.
The STE's rear speakers act as subwoofers, and are driven by an external amplifier in the same place as the TGP. You have the Bass Gain control on your drivers side door correct? If so, I'd look at the amplifier and check for any loose connections.

Thanks, I'll get right on that.  I do have the gain control in the drivers door, which worked great until the speakers quit working.  I will take a look at it when I get a chance to tear it apart.  I found yet another $75 WORKING factory TGP CD Player, so I am going to be picking that up on Monday, and then putting on in each TGP soon.

The amplifier is under the box so it can be accessed without taking the stereo out correct?  (its the square box about the size of a floppy drive?)

Thanks,

Ok, sweet...I have one of those.  The previous owner gave me a box full of random parts and thats one of the MANY things that was in it.

Also, I was just trying to hook up some rear speakers and there are two positives and two negatives!?!?  How am I supposed to hook the wires up to my 6X9's with only one terminal?  Do I connect both of the wires to the terminal on my speakers...it doesn't seem like it otherwise why would there be two wires?  Don't know much about stereos, so maybe someone can help me with this...

I know it sounds odd, since it's factory equipment and all, but it IS possible that the 6x9's are DVC (Dual Voice Coil) design. Those styles of speakers had 2 inputs on each speaker, one for each voice coil inside the cone.
Can you get a picture of the underside of the speakers? I'm kinda intrested in seeing those.

But remember, with the factory system, if you replace those speakers, they will only produce low end frequencies, since that's what they were used for. But if you do replace them, just pick one of the sets of wires to use.. Do not use both of them on 1 speaker!

Is that extra amplifier in the box from another STE or a TGP?

The guy said that everything in the box came off of a Turbo STE at a local junkyard that was identical to mine.

The factory speakers definately have 2 inputs on them.  If I could find my digital camera I would post pics.  I had like 200 pics on it 'cause my computer was broke, so I fixed the computer and went to upload all the pics and can't find the camera.

I hooked up one of the sets of wires, and the speakers work, but the gain control doesn't do anything...
