I have a 1990 Black/Grey TGP For Sale.

$750.00! or best offer
Year: 1990  Make: Pontiac  Model: Turbo Grand Prix Mclaren(TGP)
Motor: 3.1L V6 Turbo   Color: Black   Location: Las Cruces,  New Mexico
Interior: Factory gray leather power seats, HUD, electronic compass.  Sony CD player.

Mileage: 118,631

Modifications: After-market front mounted intercooler

Car History:

My girlfriend (Andrea) bought this car in Lubbock, TX in Dec 2000.  The previous owner did lots of repair work on the car in 1999 including installing a rebuilt transmission, rebuilt motor, and turbo (see below for list of parts).  The previous owner "ran the car hard" and may have used it a street racer, but he did not drive it long before it was repossessed over a loan for the  repairs.  The car was in storage for over 6 months before we got it.  We put new front tires on it, rear brake pads, and that really expensive master-cylinder/ABS part right before we moved and drove the car to Las Cruces, NM in Oct 2001.  Car has been sitting ever since so now it is time for it to go to a good home.

Known Issues:

   Exterior

Paint is faded on hood and pealing to primer on roof and top surfaces of trunk.  NM sun is punishing.
Small dent on drivers side front fender, near headlight.
Passenger side door handle broken off.
Front air dam is broken off in center.
Drivers side door sticks.

   Interior

Drivers seat leather is cracked and seam near top outside edge of seat came apart.
Radio is not factory original so steering wheel buttons did not work.

   Mechanical

Cracked cross-over pipe.
Currently does not run, but when it did run, it smoked (turbo seals?).
Needs AC work.

Work done just prior to 10-1-2001, ~117000 miles on odometer:

New tires (2)
New rear brake pads
Rebuilt ABS/Master cylinder

Work done 6-1-1999, ~114000 miles on odometer:

New upper and lower hoses
New spark plugs and wires
New belts
New turbo actuator
New radiator
Rebuilt engine

Work done prior to 6- 1- 1999 but not sure exactly when:

Rebuilt transmission
Rebuilt turbo (but I believe the turbo is bad now due to seals?)

General Description:

No rust at all, does not appear to have been in any major accidents and the body is in relatively good shape.  Interior is in relatively good shape.  This could be a good "fixer upper" or parts car.  Contact Us for more information.

Looking at the pictures I see the upper charge piping going to the throttle body is rather hokey looking. Is the something other than the stock intercooler in there? Maybe a front mount intercooler?

You are in Southern NM? Wonder what it would cost to ship it to Colorado Springs? hmmmmm 8)

I far as I know: it is not an aftermarket intercooler.  That is the way we got it.  I think it is some kind of metal tape that is intended to keep the intake air cooler,  but I am not sure.

Thanks,

Scott

Hey Scott...any chance you can take some pictures of the piping and where it might be going?  8)

Sure I will take more photos tomorrow (It is dark right now).  I have never looked at another TGP up close so I have no idea if it is stock or not.  I will guess from your inquery that it may not be stock.

The pipe goes down along the drivers-side of the radiator, across the bottom to a very large intercooler mounted directly infront of the radiator.  The intercooler is directly behind the two vents in the bumper.  If you look at the photo http://scott_schrader.home.comcast.net/front.htm you can see the pipes again under the right side vent.  The intercooler takes up the entire area behind the vents.

Thanks and check for more photos tomorrow,

Scott

Yeah, that's definitely an aftermarket setup then. Our stock intercoolers are mounted right in front of the turbocharger.

You can kinda see how the upper pipe looks on my TGP with the stock intercooler in this picture(just goes straight to the intercooler outlet right there where the rubber coupler is).

Thanks for the information.  I will update the web page about after-market front mounted intercooler.

I am far from an expert on these cars but if anyone else wants some specific information about any particular aspect of this car, I will try my best to answer and post additional photos if needed.

thanks again,

Scott

Hello all,

Just an update.  I have this car posted in Autotrader.com and triftynickel.com

Dropped the price to $750.00

After 2 weeks may just send it to the junk yard and turn it into a coffee table

Unless someone knows of a good home it can go to.

Thanks, Scott

If you are willing to part it out, could I have the intercooler and piping?
Obsessed is the lazy mans word for dedication.

tgp4sale

Sure I will part it out.  The cost is $750.00 and it comes in a very big black box that looks just like a TGP.

Well I thought it was funny, I did not mean to offend.  I would prefer that someone would take this complete car and give it a good loving home.

If I get to the point of sending it to the junkyard crusher, then I guess you could come out here and take any parts off of it that you would want.  I will buy the beer and lone you some tools.

Don't let it go to a crusher!

PM me if you get to that point! 8)
