Quote from: Gearhead43One more thing.. Has some have said.... Cold air is always better for a TURBO.If that's true... Why the heck is everybody rushing out to purchase K&N filters that do Nothing but PULL HOT engine bay air into the turbo??

If you have the a/c condensor fins removed you won't get all hot air.

I made my own half-assed CAI. I used the stock hose that connected the airbox to the turbo and attached a K&N to the end of it using an piece of exhaust pipe 4" long. Connected it to the turbo and let the hose and filter hang down to the bottom of the car behind the intercooler. Made a difference to my ass dyno.

this is my CAI and I am going to be welding a flange on it for crankcase gas recirc. my question is 1. how close to the turbo inlet should it be? My guess is somewhere near the filter. 2. Is there some type of in line filter that would catch the gunk before it goes through the compressor?

I don't think it matters where you place the tube for crankcase ventilation on your CAI tubing. A fuel filter for a carb'd motor(one of those small version clear inline filters) would probably catch most of the oily mist/gunk, not sure how long it would take to dirty those up before you would need to change it though.

yea I am basically looking for something I can take out and clean/degrease or replace. I had a Ford van that had something like that in the air filter box made of a small paper filter. It picked up quite a bit of crap in a few months that would normally clog the filter.

Here is a closer look, Kenny, I just took 2 breathers and clamped on some silicone around them. others are welcome to use my little invention  :icon_mrgreen: or my dogbone washer trick.

kinda looks like the clamp is about to fall off :icon_razz:

i'm just gonna stick with the push in K&N 62-1010 breather filter.  easy to clean anyway and keeps the engine bay from looking cluttered.

This looks like it would fall off? why, the clapms loose? it still works, :icon_razz:I was just looking at that. turbosedan? do you even know why a push in breather is bad for your motor? Its because the PCV tube draws the contaminents out of the motor and recirculates through the combustion process. without it the vapor turns to goo and drains back into the oil, or with a breather right there it will just get all oily and splatter out on the outside of the valve cover and make a mess. I had to constantly wipe off the splattered oil off my motor and change the oil after 2500 miles because it was black. and using race oil, thats expensive.

Ya i was gonna go with the push in filter like i have seen on here....but after some reading i decided not to for the reasons our friend above mentioned.

here is a pic of mine

Stock tube to an extension hose to a right angle going into the K&N where the bad vapors are sucked in to be re-used.

and lets keep it friendly guys

do we have an 'ignore' feature here?

*edit by TGPilot*...just trying to keep the peace.  ;) The ignore function is being worked on by Luke and will be in place shortly.
