A fuel filter for a carb'd motor(one of those small version clear inline filters) would probably catch most of the oily mist/gunk, not sure how long it would take to dirty those up before you would need to change it though.

I found this, it has a removable element that you can clean or replace, Plus It looks cool :icon_lol:

Yeah, I just couldn't figure out a way to work in the one member who claimed that adding a valance to his lightbulb kept it from overheating...

Cool thanks for the filter info I also added this outer wear K&N RU-1460PK (it fits filter RU-1760 ) because the filter I got with my chip got so dirty it was uncleanable. So I figured an outer wear like I have for my four wheeler would help keep my cars filter clean.

Invasion1, I like the setup in your car. What style K&N are you using and how did you hook it up to the valve cover?
Thanks.

Ya i liked mine also  :icon_mrgreen: never caught on though  ;)

RX-4960 K&N X-Stream

you have to trim the flange to shorten it enough to fit on the turbo and it will leave about 1/2 inch gap and with GOOD engine mounts (dogbones thats more than enough and i have a 5-speed  ;) )

as far as the valve cover to turbo mod goes use the stock tube you have now and buy a hose that can fit snug and then in the HELP section at autozone or advance auto they have 90* "T"'s that you can add on that hose extension.

after you find one of those "T"'s select a drill bit slightly smaller and drill a hole in the flange far enough away from the compressor so its not in the way.

pop that 90* in that hole and you have a functional escape for the gas from the engine.

hope that helps you get a better idea

if not feel free to ask more questions

cheers
Dave

Also the pic of the filter is the smaller version of the part # i listed, K&N didn't list the larger version's pic for some reason.

the actual filter is 2 inches longer i believe than the stumpy one in the pic.

EXACT same style though just more filter surface!!

Dave. Do you mean that you drilled a hole in the flange for the turbo?  :icon_eek: You mentioned dog bones and standard transmission. I have new poly dog bones and an automatic. I also see that you have moved the coolant overflow. Is this neccesary for the setup to fit? I have other questions and comments about your engine compartment but we'll work on the K&N first.  :icon_lol: Thanks Dave.

No No

Drill a hole in the filters flange for the 90* fitting, it will pop in if you make the hole smaller than the fitting so its air tight.

If you have the poly dogbones you don't have to worry about engine movement at all so if you cut the filiter flange and have 1/2 inch between the filter and Intercooler your fine like mine is.

I never used the TGP specific coolant bottle, mainly because its poor location, the one i have on mine is the stock Cutlass coolant bottle and a few TGP guys have moved to that and removed the oddly placed one in there TGP's.

I can't say if it will effect this setup as i never used it in my car so i dunno

The Master

Thanks Dave. I'm gonna order the parts tommorrow. If you get a chance could you post a better pic? Maybe from above. I wonder why this setup isn't more popular here?

its all apart now with my engine removal so i can't get a pic all assembled from a different angle......sorry

Invasion1

Maybe the filter was to $$

I dunno why it never got popular

The Master

Sorry Dave. Forgot about the "incident".  :icon_cry: . Now I'm thinkin should I really be following your instructions.  :icon_lol: . Just kiddin. Ordered the filter last night. $55.25. Good luck with your project.

Ouch......

I doubt the air filter had anything to do with this Incident.

Probably because almost everyone already had the regular ol' K&N's mentioned at the very beginning of the thread. :icon_mrgreen:
