If you still browse the board....what year is that, color, cd or tape, sunroof or not? Going by the vin's I already have, I'm certain it's a 1990 car, but would like to have the other details I asked for. I'm trying to keep track of as many cars as possible. Jeff has some VIN's listed on www.turbograndprix.com , but I already have more than he has listed...

I'm keeping a database of VIN numbers. There's absolutely nothing that anyone can do with your VIN, so it doesn't matter if you give out the whole thing. It's in open view on your car everytime you park it anywhere anyhow. ;)

PS: 1G5WP14V2LF205359(90 Red TGP w/ Tan lthr, CD, sunroof,110K miles) = the lowest I've seen so far.

HEY!   I am a regular member of W-body, but I've come here to join you guys and besides my interest in these cars, I have an ongoing project that both me and Manicmechanic/neversatisfied of various forums is working on.

I am actively creating a database that I would like to publish for us all, once complete.  A methods has been devised to 'discover' ALL TGP and TSTE vins, as long as records exist for them.

i have discovered  MANY MANY MANY TGPs NO ONE here knows about.

wanna see?

1G5WP14V9Kf264746
1G5WP14V9Kf264827
1G5WP14V0KF284920
1G5WP14V5KF285481
1G5WP14V6KF287174
1G5WP14V7KF289693
1G5WP14V3KF289710

there you go.  the worlds FIRST TGPs recovered for all time.  more to come.

HERE IS WHAT I ASK OF YOU.   I can come up with the VIN of EVERY TGP.  I CANNOT fill out the rest of the data about the car.   THAT is your job.   I would like to get the build date for every car found, the color and options.  This will be the ultimate TGP VIN project for eternity.    I DO NOT care about who owns the car.   this will not be shared.  Some of you wish to obscure your VIN number, but the only point this serves... is to have me cuss you out for failing to provide any usable data for the project!!!!

If you do not wish to share the data publicly, I accept PMs.

What are my goals?  To answer questions.
HOW MANY were there?
How often were they produced?
Are they sequential?
Were the two colors offered on TGPs offeredc from the very beginning?
how often did the cars get sunroofs?

The two color options were there from the beginning. As far as the VIN's being seqential, they are to the full Grand Prix production, but not the Turbo Grand Prix production. These cars started out as SE's and then got shipped to ASC/McLaren for modification. I think you'll find "1G2" vins before & after every TGP vin in sequence because of this. To me, it seems like they more often than not have sunroofs. I have pictures of at least 200-300 TGP's and the majority have sunroofs so far...I guess once we get all the VIN's, we can bug the hell out of the dealerships to print off the RPO information for each car. Good thing I have about 5-6 GM dealers in my area that I can bother for that reason.

I don't know if you've seen this information that was posted on W-body before, so I'll post it here.

Here is some production number information from various sources:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This set is from a McLaren Mustang owner that wrote to Pontiac in the early 90's and received these figures.

1989 - 750 Grand Prix Coupe Turbo {375 Black & 375 Brite Red}
1990 - 2,725 Grand Prix Coupe Turbo (Color Mix unknown) & 1,000 STE Sedan Turbo (Color Mix unknown)

The next set is from Pontiac Historical Services from the early 90's.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pontiac Historical Sources #'s:
751 TGPs in 1989
2,749 TGPs in 1990
TOTAL 3,500
And 1,000 TSTE in 1990
TOTAL 4,500
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pontiac Care's:
Pontiac Care's #'s
3,425 in 1989
3,750 in 1990

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, Jeff M. has this info on his site:
Pontiac nor ASC kept a record of the specific VINs for the T G P/TSTE, no options count either
But the last 6 digits can at least represent the first to last vehicles made that MY/manufacturing year.
Turbo Grand Prixs for manufacturing year 1989 were released in mid 1989, so there was only time for a run of 751 cars.
Turbo Grand Prixs for manufacturing year 1990 were offered as normal/fall of 1989, longer MY resulting in 3,714 cars produced.
Turbo STE for manufacturing year 1990 were released in mid 1990, with a run of 1,000 cars.

*NOTE* I'm thinking that Jeff made a typo there and it was supposed to be 2714 1990 TGP's instead of "3714"  as that would put his numbers very close to the others above....

As you can see, the numbers from Pontiac to the McLaren Mustang owner & the Pontiac Historic numbers that were received years ago are pretty close. That leads me to believe that the actual production numbers are close to those. We all know the 1989's are more rare since they don't show up nearly as often as 1990 cars for sale.

For anyone listing new numbers from now on, please list the following if you don't mind.

1989 - Exterior color, interior color(even though I believe 89's only got tan) sunroof or no sunroof, leather or cloth.
1990 - Exterior color, interior color, sunroof or no sunroof, leather or cloth, tape or CD.

Thanks. ;)
