ok you guys are confusing the hell out of me. I'm going down to Autozone which K & N filter do I tell them I need that I can bring home bolt on close the hood and drive and not have to do any modifying also what filter do I need for the valve cover.

I use the RU-1390, it clamps straight on. Do not tighten your clamp very tight or you'll eventually end up tearing the neck of the filter. It doesn't take much clamping force to keep it in place. Autozone is going to have to order that filter unless you get very lucky. They typically only stock very common filters, and the RU-1390 isnt' extremely common. ;)

Here's mine:
RX-4960 K&N X-Stream.  I have a K&N outerwear on there also.   The filter is still as clean as the day I put it on there!

You will have to relocate your coolant catch bottle to run this filter.

Yeah, I just couldn't figure out a way to work in the one member who claimed that adding a valance to his lightbulb kept it from overheating...

order it from AJUSA way cheaper

Actually, autozones price is within $3 of AJUSA(using my zip code on autozone's website anyways - 30605/Athens, GA...prices vary at AZ depending on location). It looks like AJUSA has gone up in price recently.

6 and a half years later..................

this thread is STILL fricking going.....
i would have thought that after that much time, and 7 pages of "does ##### part number K&N filter work?....."
you would think people would have figured out just about every filter that fits, and if you get one that doesnt, TAKE IT BACK....lol
they do exchanges......simply try again....... :icon_rolleyes:

Just so I make sure I understand common sense, I would just put the filter onto the turbo directly, right? Do I need to worry about the hole where air used to come from the other side of the engine compartment into the old filter box?

Yes, the filter goes straight on the turbo. For the hose from the valve cover, you have two options. Delete it and install a generic push-in breather or add a fitting to your K&N filter and run a line from the valve cover to the filter.

I've done enough research to say that the breather is out, so what would I do at this point? I already ordered a RU-1390, if knowing that helps.

You can just get a breather filter and put it on the hole. Simple and cheap solution
