Hey guys, I've been looking around on the forums for a power master 3 replacement. (Or accumulator not quite sure of the broken part)

I heard that somewhere you could send your pm3 and get it rebuilt.

Does anyone have any details as far as this goes>?

Thanks  ;)

Autozone sells remans for $875+ $115 core.

They are rebuilt by Cardone.

Me too.  Pressure Switch and all too.  But for that price I might grab one.  The 20% code on their site works on it.. . .

I'm thinking about picking one up too to start this '89 TGP off right. Good to know the code works...makes the decision easier

So...the bad news on these Cardone units. They don't seem to be available. Tried Autozone. Tried AdvanceAuto. It wasn't available at either one. Unknown as to if/when they would be getting them back in stock as well. I'll keep trying, but it's not looking promising.

OReilly's thinks they can get them, but you have to bring in your PMIII, they mail it in, you pay freight both ways, and eventually you'll get it back. No timetable in their reman instructions. Their unit is also $1098 to start with. Around $1110 total. Might go that route.

I also emailed Cardone to see if they still reman them. We'll see if I get a response.

I'll just keep updating this thread...

Got a response from Cardone today:

Good morning. Thank you for your interest in our products, however this part is currently out of stock.  You can send your core in for rebuild thru any parts store such as NAPA, CARQUEST or ORIELLY'S. There is an 80% chance we would be able to rebuild the core and the turn-around time would be approximately 3-5 business day. Any pricing would be provided by the store you select you handle your "R&R".

That's not bad.  But most likely, that 80% qualifier is for lack of pressure switch and probably accumulator, too.

Well, we'll find out half of that theory. I have a PMIII that has a bad accumulator but good pressure switch (or so I seem to recall..it has been 10+ years since it's been in a car). I did send Cardone a follow up to see what their rebuild covers. No response yet.

After talking with Autozone corporate, they must have contacted a regional manager. I got a VM very quickly from the nearest store, eager to help. They also let me know that everyone should be trained on the R&R procedure but some may need a reminder. The sad thing is, when I called back, I got some girl that once again proceeded to tell me that they don't have an R&R service for master cylinders....seems like they still have some training to do.

I'm going to drop it off at Autozone on Monday and see what happens.

Just another update on this.

Autozone drop off was a fail.

They couldn't do an R&R because there is no SKU in the system for a customer to drop off a master cylinder for rebuild. Only to buy an already rebuilt one. They called Cardone, which did not have a SKU to provide them. They called Autozone corporate. They were unwilling to create one. I talked to a friend of a friend at Carquest who says he's 99% sure he can get this done, but their price is around $1200 vs the roughly $1000 it would have been with Autzone including tax & shipping. Probably will check out that avenue, but I sent an email back to Cardone letting them know that they're not selling any of these because nobody can send them in...see if that lights any sort of fire.

Also, I got a very generic reply back from them regarding what they do during the rebuild process:

I work in the R&R dept. Eligible ABS units sent in for our R&R service are fully tested and the faulty parts in and on the units are replaced or repaired. Should you have additional questions, please contact the R&R dept directly during our regular business hours of 8:30AM to 5:00PM Monday thru Friday EST. We'd be more than happy to assist you.
